Adele Lim is a writer, producer, and director who is one of the first Malaysian-born filmmakers to break through in Hollywood. After an extremely active nineteen-year period in television as a producer, executive producer, co-producer, co-writer, executive story editor, and script coordinator, starting in 2000, Lim was hired by director Jon M. Chu to co-write (with Peter Chiarelli) the hit movie adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s novel, Crazy Rich Asians (2018), starring Constance Wu, Michelle Yeoh, Henry Golding, Gemma Chan, Lisa Lu, Awkwafina, and Ken Jeong, and grossing a potent $238.5 million globally on a $30 million budget.
Adele Lim’s next feature project was as co-writer (with Qui Nguyen) of the screenplay (as well as one of eight credited story writers) of Walt Disney Animation Studio’s acclaimed animated fantasy-adventure, Raya and the Last Dragon (2021), with the voice cast of Kelly Marie Tran, Awkwafina, Izaac Wang, Gemma Chan, Daniel Dae Kim, Benedict Wong, Sandra Oh, Thalia Tran, Lucille Soong, and Alan Tudyk.
Lim developed the story (with screenwriters Cherry Chevapravatdumrong and Teresa Hsiao) of the raunch-fest comedy, Joy Ride (2023), which she also directed and co-produced (with, among others, Seth Rogen), co-starring Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Stephanie Hsu, and Sabrina Wu, and premiering at the South by Southwest film festival.
