Auli’i Cravalho (birthname:
Chloe Auli’i Cravalho) shot to fame at sixteen years old as the voice of Disney’s acclaimed Polynesian-inspired adventure,
Moana (2016), co-starring the voice of
Dwayne Johnson under the co-direction of John Musker and Ron Clements (who also co-wrote the story), and which grossed $687 million globally on a $175 million budget.
Cravalho revived her Moana voice character in Disney’s sequel,
Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018), with the voices of
John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Gal Gadot, Jane Lynch, Alfred Molina, Ed O’Neill, and
Taraji P. Henson and co-directed by Rich Moore and Phil Johnston (who also contributed to the script and story), and took in a solid $529 million against $175 million costs.
Cravalho then starred or co-starred in a few streaming movies (Netflix’s All Together Now (2020), Hulu’s Crush (2022), and Darby and the Dead (2022)), and then joined the cast of the
Tina Fey-written teen comedy musical,
Mean Girls (2024), co-starring
Angourie Rice,
Renee Rapp and Christopher Briney under Samantha Jayne’s and
Arturo Perez Jr.’s co-direction, and which was released by Paramount Pictures to the tune of $105 million global box office.
Cravalho revived her famed voice character in Disney’s anticipated sequel,
Moana 2 (2024), again co-starring Dwayne Johnson with the co-directing triumvirate of David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller (who also co-wrote with Jared Bush).
Auli’i Cravalho was executive producer only on the live-action version of
Moana (2026), with Catherine Laga’aia portraying the live-action Polynesian heroine opposite Dwayne Johnson (recreating his animated voice role of Maui) under Thomas Kail’s direction and based on the screenplay by
Jared Bush and
Dana Ledoux Miller.
