Camila Cabello (birthname: Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao) is a Pop/Latin/R&B cross-over singer-turned-actor in high-profile, wide-audience movies.
In ten years—starting as a contestant on
The X Factor, when she became a member of the hit girl group, Fifth Harmony, and then on to pop stardom as a crossover Latin/R&B singer—Cabello made her entry into features as a performer in such concert movies as
Taylor Swift: The 1989 World Tour Live (2015),
Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour (2018), and
Shawn Mendes: In Wonder (2020).
But it was with her title lead role in Disney’s jukebox musical,
Cinderella (2021), written and directed by Kay Cannon and with Nicholas Galitzine, Irina Mendel, Minnie Driver, Billy Porter, and Pierce Brosnan, that Cabello was able to launch a second career as a movie star.
Cabello then took on a co-starring voice role in DreamWorks Animation’s sequel,
Trolls Band Together (2023), directed by Walt Dohrn and co-starring
Anna Kendrick,
Justin Timberlake, Zooey Deschanel, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Anderson .Paak, Kenan Thompson, and Amy Schumer. Cabello was cast by actor-director-writer Chiwetel Ejiofor in a major role in
Rob Peace (date to be announced), Ejiofor’s feature adaptation of Jeff Hobbs’ biography, The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace, with Jay Will, Ejiofor, Mary J. Blige, and Michael Kelly.
