Part of the trend of Hollywood opening up to greater casting diversity and a long-delayed surge in opportunities for Hispanic moviemaking talent, Eiza González (birthname:
Eiza González Reyna) has risen from roles in Mexican telenovelas to co-starring spots in brawny American productions, most recently in
Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) with
Alexander Skarsgård,
Michael Bay’s Ambulance (2022), co-starring
Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen and The Three-Body Problem (2022-2023), created by Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and Daniel Weiss.
Eiza González starred or co-starred in five telenovelas series for Mexican television from 2007 to 2013, including the hit musical series, Lola, érase una vez (2007-2008), establishing herself as one of the most recognizable faces on TV in her native country. She parlayed this work into a brief recording career, with albums in 2009 and 2012.
Eiza González appeared in her first U.S. series (under
Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey Network and streaming on Netflix), From Dusk till Dawn: The Series (2014-2016), in which she re-created Salma Hayek’s role from Rodriguez’s feature version, Santanico Pandemonium. From there, González has parlayed that exposure into a string of appearances in Edgar Wright’s acclaimed
Baby Driver (2017) and co-starring with Vin Diesel in
Bloodshot (2020).
