Harry Styles (birthname: Harry Edward Styles), as both the co-founder of the mega-group One Direction and a superstar solo artist, is a brand name in the pop music world but is just getting going in the movies. Still, he has already begun to amass impressive and interesting credits. For example, soon after he launched his solo career, Styles was plucked by filmmaker Christopher Nolan for a lead role in his brilliant WW2 epic, Dunkirk (2017).
It immediately established Styles as a serious-minded actor working in a highly prestigious filmmaking environment; the casting recalled such cases as director Nicolas Roeg casting Mick Jagger in Performance (1970), David Bowie in The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976), Richard Attenborough casting John Lennon in Oh! Styles’ second major 2022 feature is the Michael Grandage/Ron Nyswaner adaptation of Bethan Roberts’ book, My Policeman, with Emma Corrin, David Dawson, Gina McKee, Linus Roache, and Rupert Everett, released theatrically by Amazon Studios after premiering at the Toronto Film Festival, which is honoring Styles, Corrin, and Dawson with the TIFF Tribute Award (going for the first time to an ensemble of actors).
Personal life
Born in Redditch, England, Harry Styles was raised by Desmond Styles and Anne Twist, who also had a daughter, Gemma. Styles’ family moved to the eastern Cheshire village of Holmes Chapel. His parents divorced when he was seven years old. Anne’s third marriage, to Robin Twist, gave Styles stepsister Amy Twist and stepbrother Mike Twist. Styles attended Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School.
He worked in a local bakery in Holmes Chapel when he was 16. In 2010, Anne urged Styles to audition for the British music competition show, The X Factor, which eventually led to the formation of One Direction during competition (with the group finishing in third place in the finals!). Styles has been in several relationships, starting with TV host Caroline Flack (2011-2012), singer-songwriter Taylor Swift (2012), model Camille Rowe (2017-2018), and has been in a relationship with actor-director Olivia Wilde since 2021. Styles’ height is 6’. His estimated net worth is $90 million.
